Writing a Thank You Note for a Small Kindness

Small kindnesses, a door held open a little longer, a returned item handed back without fuss, a moment of genuine patience shown during a stressful exchange, are easy to let pass entirely without acknowledgement, precisely because they seem far too minor or ordinary to warrant a written note of any kind at all.
Yet a brief note written for a small kindness often surprises people considerably more than a note written for a large, obvious favour, because they rarely expect such a minor, fleeting moment to have actually been noticed at all, let alone remembered and written down afterward by someone else entirely.
These particular notes need not be especially long to work well and land properly. A single sentence or two, naming exactly what happened and quietly explaining why it mattered, is genuinely enough to turn a fleeting, forgettable moment into something the recipient remembers fondly for a very long time afterward.
